>1. ATTEND MONTHLY MEETINGS OF FRIENDS OF ASTORIA HEIGHTS PARK<
Please come to our meetings and become a regular volunteer, if you want to be actively involved in the development of our group’s capabilities and achievement of our various goals. All of us are doing this on a volunteer basis out of love of our neighborhood and a desire to improve it and would greatly appreciate anyone serious about joining our team. Want to come to our next meeting? Contact adamwc1776 at gmail.com and put “Volunteering for FAHP” in your subject line.
>2. SHOWING UP WHEN IT MATTERS… MATTERS<
Help make our events terrific and stand up and speak up for our cause… politely and passionately… in public forums. Friends of Astoria Heights Park will have an increasingly ambitious schedule, involving monthly events at our park designed to bring people together and build common-cause investment and momentum. Sometimes we will need people to write letters of support for our endeavors or to help gather signatures in support of a concrete project for which we need to demonstrate community support. Also, there are opportunities to communicate with elected representatives and we should always strive to have a presence at such events.
>3. BECOME A CONTENT CONTRIBUTOR TO THIS SITE<
Please help us document “the good, the bad, and the ugly” issues that have motivated us to team up and advocate for major renovations at Astoria Heights Park. We all regularly witness examples of why we love Astoria Heights Park—from the generosity and good-natured spirit of the parents to the impossibly sweet interactions of the very young children. Other times you’ll see the bothersome to troubling things that make our advocacy urgently needed— from teenagers fighting to drug trades. Our end goal is to document the progress we make as a group and as a community on our way to making Astoria Heights Park one of the best public spaces in New York City.
